Natural Health and Health For The Endocrine System
The
Endocrine System is made of the pituitary gland, hypothalamus, pineal
gland, thyroid, parathyroids, thymus, adrenal glands, the pancreas, &
the gonads (ovaries or testes).
The
glands & organs of the endocrine system produce & regulate
hormones in the bloodstream. The hormones produced give signals to
organs, body systems, & cycles to work & to do their jobs.
The Endocrine System controls, stimulates & regulates the growth
cycle, sleep cycle, reproductive cycle, & nutritional cycle of
the body.
The
pituitary, hypothalamus, & pineal are located in the head &
brain area.
The
pituitary gland is the master gland. It controls the functions of
the other endocrine glands.
The
hypothalamus have nerve cells that help stimulate or suppress hormone
secretion from the pituitary gland. The pineal gland produces
melatonin. Melatonin control the rest & awake cycles of the body.
Located
near the front of the lower part of the neck is the thyroid gland.
The thyroid produce hormones that give energy to the body from food
that has been eaten. Thyroid produced hormones regulate bone growth,
nervous system function, & brain development in youth.
Parathyroids
are located in the neck. Hormones produced by the parathyroids
regulate calcium levels in the blood.
The
thymus is located near the heart. The thymus is needed for the
production of T-cells. T-cells help fight foreign tissue, control
anti-body production & the immune system.
The
adrenal glands are located 1 on each kidney. They have dual
functions. The inner part of the adrenal gland (adrenal
medulla) produces adrenaline. Adrenaline makes the heart-rate &
blood pressure rise when a person experience stress. The outer part
of the adrenal gland (adrenal cortex) regulate salt & water
balance in the body. It also regulate metabolism, the immune system,
sexual development & function, & how the body handles stress.
The
pancreas is in the abdomen. It produces insulin. Insulin decides how
much sugar is needed to circulate in the blood.
The
gonads are either the ovaries or testes in lower abdomen. They are
the source of the sex hormones that help regulate the reproductive
cycle.
A
healthy endocrine system is very important for proper growth,
development, and living. Herbal Therapy has been very successful at
